About my visit in 2025-sep:
I first visited Chongqing in July 2014, primarily to sail down the Yangtze River to the Three Gorges Dam. Returning in September 2025 was a revelation. Many of the skyscrapers that now define the city’s skyline were still under construction back in 2014 (take a look at my photos from that trip for comparison). This time, I happened to stay at a hotel quite far from the center—not that it was an issue, but it was certainly beyond walking distance.
I visited Hongya Cave—or rather, I got more or less lost in it. The complex existed back in 2014, when I visited one evening and was virtually the only guest there. What a difference a decade makes! I also don't recall any hype in 2014 about photographing the Liziba station, where the train famously travels through a residential building, but today it is a massive attraction.
Navigating the city was incredibly challenging. Back in Denmark, sorting through my photos required some serious detective work to distinguish between the Qiansimen Bridge and the Dongshuimen Bridge. They look remarkably similar, but I finally cracked the code: the Qiansimen Bridge—located by Hongya Cave—has a single pylon, while the Dongshuimen Bridge has two. Now I know!"

About this photoalbum
In February 2026, I reorganized my entire collection of photos from my travels in China spanning 2009 to 2025. Previously, the images were sorted by year, with locations nested under each trip. However, analytics show that more than 80% of my visitors come from China and Singapore. For them —and hopefully for many others— I believe this new structure is much more intuitive. The photos are now organized by location, with provinces and major cities as the primary categories. Under each destination, you will find subfolders for the specific years and months of my visits.

I hope you enjoy this journey through a changing China.
